In the final seconds, unbridled joy broke out for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández stabbed home a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola howling at the heavens and provided the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch, making the recollection of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Stark Contrast in Experience

On the home bench was the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with an unparalleled CV for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, stood a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and stepped up to make his first-team debut after being temporarily promoted from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a host of absences, headlined by Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed Mission: Impossible.
